Transferring your Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) balance online is a seamless and convenient process when changing jobs. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides a user-friendly online platform, the UAN Member e-Sewa portal, to facilitate this transfer.
This guide will walk you through each step in detail, ensuring a smooth transition of your hard-earned savings.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you meet the following requirements:
- Activated UAN: Your Universal Account Number (UAN) must be activated on the UAN Member e-Sewa portal.
- Verified KYC: Your Aadhaar and bank account details should be seeded and verified in your UAN profile.
- Updated Date of Exit: Your previous employer must have updated your date of exit in the EPFO records.

Steps to Transfer EPF Online
- Step 1: Access the EPFO portal by visiting the UAN Member e-Sewa portal.
- Step 2: Log in to your account, and enter your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password. Fill in the captcha code displayed on the screen. And lastly, click on the “Sign In” option.
- Step 2: As the next step, we need to initiate transfer request, for this go to the “Online Services” tab on the top menu bar.
- Step 3: Select “One Member – One EPF Account (Transfer Request)” from the dropdown options.
- Step 4: Carefully review your displayed personal information (name, date of birth, contact details) and ensure its accuracy.
- Step 5: Verify your current PF account details, including the PF number and your current employer’s information.
- Step 6: Click on the “Get Details” button. This will automatically retrieve your previous PF account details, including your previous employer’s name and PF account number, from the EPFO database.
As the next step, select the attestation method:
- If both UANs (current and previous) are Aadhaar-verified:
- Select “Previous Employer” or “Current Employer” as the attesting authority.
- Since both accounts are Aadhaar-verified, attestation is not mandatory.
- If you select an employer, they will receive an online notification for approval.
- If either UAN is not Aadhaar-verified:
- Select the employer (previous or current) who will attest to your transfer request.
- Enter the Member ID or UAN of your previous PF account.
- Step 8: Enter the date of joining and the date of exit from your previous employment. These details are crucial for processing the transfer request.
- Step 9: In the case of multiple Member IDs for the same employer, choose the Member ID to be transferred.
- Step 10: After carefully reviewing all the entered details, click on the “Get OTP” button. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP in the provided field.
- Step 11: Click “Submit” to initiate the transfer request.
Note: If you select an employer for attestation, they will receive an online notification. The employer needs to digitally approve the transfer request within the stipulated time for the process to continue.
